In La Edad de la Ira, Guayasamín denounces the violence of man against man in this
century. His work reflects the pain and misery that the larger part of
humanity has endured, and denounces the violence that every human being
has had to live with in this monstrous 20th. century marked by world
wars, civil wars, genocide, concentration camps, dictatorships, and
tortures. One of the most important collections is the series of Las
Manos, and within it, Las Manos de la Protesta is vital because it
summarizes the attitude of human beings towards injustice from those who
have everything - Manos Insaciables - and most of humanity who do not
have anything - Manos del Mendigo -, after passing through Manos de la Oración, del Miedo, etc., the only thing left for the unjustly outcast
society is the protest.
